Everything you need to know about microneedling treatment

microneedling treatment

Microneedling treatment is especially recommended in the cold season to get the best results. It is a minimally invasive procedure, but it leaves the skin slightly exposed after the treatment, and the strong sun or sweating that occurs after high temperatures would irritate the already sensitive skin and affect the final result. So, now is the right time to have a skin rejuvenation treatment.

What is microneedling treatment?

This procedure involves penetrating the skin with micro-needles at different depths, depending on the purpose of the treatment. It can be used to fade fine or deeper wrinkles, pigmentation spots or post-acne marks. The procedure itself is not painful, but some patients may experience some discomfort, especially if working at a great depth of skin or working in areas with old post-acne scars or deep wrinkles. It’s important to know from the start that results are not seen immediately and may differ from person to person. Indeed, after the microneedling session, your skin will be brighter and firmer, but in the long run, you’ll notice that wrinkles won’t show as strongly and pigmentation spots will fade. The microneedling procedure works to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin – these fibers are directly involved in the skin rejuvenation process.

The steps of a microneedling treatment

The first step is to schedule a consultation at our clinic. A specialist will assess your skin and identify the problems you are experiencing. Depending on the needs of your skin and the imperfections that need correcting, several nutrients will be chosen to be injected into the deeper layers of the skin, where microneedling needles cause superficial lesions. During your first visit you will also be told the number of sessions recommended (usually we are talking 4-6 sessions, but in the case of deep wrinkles or scars you may need more sessions).

After completing the first treatment session, the skin may be slightly sore and irritated – these effects are completely normal and will disappear on their own over the next few days. Your specialist will recommend that you use a moisturizer and cream with SPF 30 or higher after the microneedling treatment. After the procedure, your skin will feel dry and dehydrated, which is why it is necessary to follow a skincare routine based on intense moisturization.

Are there any contraindications to microneedling treatment?

Microneedling treatment is not recommended in the following situations:

  • Acute skin infections or herpes infections,
  • Contagious skin diseases,
  • Active acne,
  • Psoriasis,

People who have had an AHA peel, hyaluronic acid or botox injections, or laser facial procedures within the last 6 months, within the last 5-6 weeks, are not eligible for microneedling treatment.
