7 beauty resolutions for 2021
14th January 2021
Looking to put 2020 behind you and start off by setting yourself some new goals for the year ahead? While normal life is still a long way off, 2021 should prove to be a year where we can look forward to some positives such as the roll out of the vaccine and being able to get together with friends and family. So, let’s look at some of the beauty resolutions that you can set yourself to get your 2021 off to a great start.
1. Take care of your skin
In 2020 we spent the year seemingly permanently washing and sanitising our hands and the result for many was that their hands started to become dry. While there is no end in sight for the constant hand washing routines that we have come to adopt it doesn’t mean that we can’t improve the health of our skin. Winter is particularly tough on our skin so make sure that you nourish and moisturise your hands to help keep them protected and stop dry skin from developing.
2. Spend plenty of time in bed
Let’s face it the winter months are cold, dark, and dreary so make the most of the dark nights by going to bed earlier and getting more sleep. We all know that sleep is important for our physical and mental health, but did you know that it can also help to improve the health of your skin. Your skin is your body’s second largest organ and sleep gives it a chance to repair itself and create collagen that helps to prevent wrinkles and sagging.
3. Avoid hot showers
While it might be tempting to turn the shower up to the hottest setting when it’s cold outside, settling for a warm shower will be more beneficial for your skin. Hot water can dry out your skin by removing the natural oils that protect and hydrate your skin. Opting for a lukewarm shower or bath and moisturising immediately afterwards will help keep your skin from becoming dry.
4. Exfoliate weekly
Exfoliation is an important part of any good skincare routine as it helps you to remove dead skin and damage cells to reveal the healthier skin underneath. While it can be tempting to exfoliate more regularly, doing so could do more harm than good. Sticking to exfoliating once a week will help improve the texture of your skin and unlock younger, healthier looking skin.
5. Always remove makeup before bed
This really shouldn’t need saying but a surprising number of women forget to remove all of their makeup before going to bed. Cleansing your face before bed will help to stop your pores from being clogged and help you avoid breakouts and acne. Removing makeup before bed will help your skin breathe and allow it to repair itself while you sleep.
6. Give your lips some attention
The skin on your lips is very sensitive and prone to damage so it needs to be protected against the elements such as the sun and the wind. Even in the winter months you should be using a moisturising product with SPF to help protect your lips from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
